We decided that we had to do
something out of the ordinary on Labor Day. We decided to go and ride
the Centennial Carousel at Porter Park and have a picnic. Even though
we have lived in Rexburg for a while, it was the first time to ride the
carousel. We had a ball riding the carousel! My favorite part of the
experience is that they played carnival music while we were riding it.
We
had a picnic afterwards. As we were eating lunch, Hyrum asked if he
could run through the spray park. He was in his clothes, but we
stripped him down to his onesie so he could run through. We were having
a fun time and enjoying the spontaneity of the day until I turned
around because Hyrum started crying. I thought he had tripped and
scraped his knee. That is until I picked him up and saw blood all over
his toe. Apparently he had tripped and his foot had ran across a metal
grate that covers some of the fountains at the spray park when he fell
down. Let's just say his toe wasn't looking pretty.
After
reporting the injury to the people running the carousel so they could
clean up the mess me left, we drove quickly to Community Care to have
Hyrum's toe checked out.
I was so glad Blaine was with
me because I was not helpful at all while they were checking Hyrum's toe
out. I couldn't even look at his toe myself, let alone soothe a
screaming two year old. Afton and I sat in the corner, looking at the
wall, while Blaine was Super Dad. He kept Hyrum distracted and was so
calm himself during the entire thing! I am lucky I married a guy who
could handle blood because I definitely can't!
They
didn't do stitches because there was no way to stitch it up but they did
wrap it and clip some of the extra skin off.
Remember when I said that I was not helpful at all at the doctor's office? Yep, I was no help afterwards either. I bawled on the way home, and for a while after we got home too. It was the most traumatic thing I have gone through with my kids so far.
The
most ironic part of the event was that just a few days before Labor
Day, I had a thought that went like this: "I am so glad that I have
never had to take one of our kids to Instant Care or the Emergency
Room." Never say "Never..." right?
This last month and a half
we have been wrapping it, and it is almost finally healed. Blaine had to wrap it for the first week and a half, until it because not so gruesome, then I took over the wrapping.
I am glad that bad experience is over! But overall we do have good memories of Labor Day!
Sacred Thoughts

Savior, Redeemer of my soul,
Whose mighty hand hath made me whole,
Whose wondrous pow'r hath raised me up
And filled with sweet by bitter cup!
What tongue of gratitude can tell,
O gracious God of Israel.
Never can I repay thee, Lord,
But I can love thee. Thy pure word,
Hath it not been my one delight,
My joy by day, my dream by night?
Then let my lips proclaim it still,
And all my life reflect thy will.
O'er rule mine acts to serve thine ends.
Change frowning foes to smiling friends.
Chasten my soul till I shall be
In perfect harmony with thee,
Make me more worthy of thy love,
And fit me for the life above.

I first heard this song a few years back. It spoke to my heart. I especially love the accompaniment that Rob Gardner wrote to go with it.
One year ago at my Grandpa King's funeral, two of my cousins sang this song while my sister played the accompaniment. It once again spoke to my heart.
These past few months, I have read the words to this song and sang them over and over in my head and they have become so meaningful to me.
On Sunday, in sacrament meeting, three women in my ward played and sang a version of Savior, Redeemer of My Soul that I had never heard before. It was the most beautiful song that I have EVER heard in any sacrament meeting, in my ENTIRE life. It was one with a piano, violin, and a beautiful voice. As I listened to it, I felt the Holy Ghost confirm to me that Jesus Christ really is my Savior, the Redeemer of my soul. He is also the Savior for the entire world.
I had an experience this last week where I relied on the Savior for help. He really did "fill with sweet my bitter cup!" I know that He does this for each person that turns to him! What a glorious thing!
As I am listening to this song today, right now as I write this blog post, I have the desire for each and every person to know that Jesus Christ is their Savior, the Redeemer of their soul. I also have the desire that my life will reflect His will.

The Gardens
Summer 2013
This place has been one of our favorite pastimes this summer. Full of beautiful trees and flowers and structures, it has been a place of many morning walks for Hyrum, Afton and I.
This particular day, Blaine had work off so we ventured to our favorite place and took some snapshots and spent time laughing and enjoying the sunshine. I wish I could just freeze time on days like today!

Celebrate Youth
August 2013
Ever year, our town hosts a celebration in honor of being a kid! They have fun games, free books, and tasty treats for all present...all in hopes to make a great memory in each child in Rexburg.
This year, we didn't get to spend a whole lot of time at the event. But we did get to do something that Hyrum just absolutely loved, and that is to ride the train. We went on a little tour of the city streets. It was definitely worth the long wait in the hot sun.

The Most Beautiful Place
August 2013
Over the break between the semesters, we have been enjoying our walks around the town. One of our favorite places to walk to/around is the Rexburg, Idaho, L.D.S. Temple. We love it's beauty and splendor. I love seeing Hyrum gaze upon it. I love the memories I have of my wedding day in this elegant place with my sweetheart Blaine
I have had a little more time lately, so I have enjoyed photo shoots by day and by night of this "Most Beautiful Place"!

This is the reflection of the temple from the building we used to attend church in when we were in the married student ward.
I just had to take these snapshots by Brigham Young University Idaho because I was right there.

The Letter "H"
August 19, 2013
Today Hyrum learned how to write the letter "H". Because of that, our sidewalk tonight is covered with H's! He had a ball using the sidewalk chalk to show us and all our neighbors his new skill.
We had the perfect Family Home Evening tonight. I can't describe to you the happiness I felt being outdoors in the sunset, (the most magical time of the day), watching a little boy's eyes light up and say "Ta-da!" every time another "H" was written, seeing Blaine and Afton snuggle on the lawn, and watching jets go by in the sky as we laid on the lawn together.

I am loving the outdoor summer evenings and I am having a hard time when I think about these evenings coming to an end soon!
